3 Small Kitchen Ideas that give all the feels!

When every square foot counts you want to love all of them…right?

Having a small kitchen doesn’t have to be minimal… or even basic. It can be filled with things you love and that happen to be useful for everyday living. By being more intentional with what you have will create a kitchen that begs to be enjoyed.

Small Kitchen Idea #1: Jazz up the mundane.

Take the items that we all use but aren’t exceptionally pretty and make them pretty. I’m talking about cooking oil, cutting boards, and dish soap. Switching out these items into beautiful containers makes your small space feel special. It also declutters the space without even moving things off your counter.

Why?

All the different colors and graphics on the labels are designed to grab your attention from the shelf (at the grocery store) but it also carries that effect to your countertops. By creating some cohesiveness with your containers, your eye is now taking in the space as a whole and not all the items within it.

Here, Let me show you…

Instead of trying to find space to store your everyday cleaning & cooking supplies now you can have them on the counter. Your kitchen will look nice and tidy and you’ll still have everything at arms reach. Wahlaa!

Small Kitchen Idea #2:
Buy what you love… just buy less!

We all do it… see something we would love to have, take one look at the price and return it to the shelf. Well one advantage we have by living in small spaces… you don’t need a million of them!

Take dishes for example. I love pottery, I love the organic shapes, the glazing… just love love love it! If you go to any festival where handmade plates, garaffes, or urns are made you know they are NOT cheap. I could not afford to purchase a 12 place setting. Period the end!

However, living in a small space means I’m not entertaining 12 people and I’ll be honest… if I was, we would be using disposable everything. So really I only need 6 settings (we have 5 in our family)… 8 settings if I want company. Now if you live in a movable tiny home… cut that to 4.

I should also note I have open shelving… and I know I’m not alone. Displaying dishes isn’t a must but I do think it’s a fun opportunity to display what you enjoy. So don’t settle for all white dishes, or hand-me-downs if what you really want is something else. Pair down and start collecting what you’re drawn to. (sorry if I offended white dish people… if you love it, you love it!)

Being intentional can be a full experience. One that surrounds us with useful items that are equally helpful and inspiring.

Small Kitchen Idea #3: Think outside the drawer.

Not everything needs to be tucked away… use it to add dimension to your kitchen decor.

What am I talking about? Utencils, spice containers, and cookbooks. I’m sure your thinking… does she put anything away? Yep, I do and I have no appreciation for cluttered countertops. However the reality is, I have a small kitchen and not enough drawers and storage. So I’ve come up with ways to make my everyday items look like decor. I don’t have anything in my kitchen that doesn’t get used regularly or have at least 2 functions.

I don’t even have a utensil drawer… Nope. I use an urn like container for all spatulas, wisks, and wooden spoons. It’s so handy next to the stove and the urn adds character to the kitchen.

You can do this with spices and even your cookbook collection (given they are limited and not extensive)

Style Hint: I like to take 2-3 cookbooks and place a bookend with them on my open shelf. This ads interest to your kitchen. I’ve included some fun ones below.
